What's the difference between BEING vs THINKING what you are?

Dear Friends,
I was contemplating today whether anyone would like to consider things like if they are really BEING a decent human being vs being a person who just THINKS they are. Some people have a lot of ideas about themselves, not all of them are true though. What are your actions? Do you help other people and serve what's good, or do you mostly just think about your own processes and outcomes without regard to how they affect other people?
What's the real difference between these types of things?
I don't think it's good to be primarily about yourself, in the form of your own enlightenment, your own self growth, your own Avatar-hood, or just thinking about yourself too much. Even though these processes sound reasonable, too much self-focus makes them less than helpful. They become stunting when mis-used by those overly self-focused. Spirituality is not about focusing on yourself primarily, contrary to popular belief.
Just curious if anyone here sees the difference between actually BEING something and just THINKING it.
